New Local Small Business Opens Downtown at Dayton Arcade

Last Friday, a new local small business opened its doors at the historic Dayton Arcade.

Willow Rust, a women-owned custom woodworking studio, is now open in one of the storefront spaces in the North Arcade off of Third Street.

The business had a ribbon cutting on the morning of October 2, and opened up for October First Friday at the Arcade that evening.

Regular hours at the Arcade’s retail concourse are 10am-6pm Wednesday-Friday and 9am-3pm on Saturdays.

Willow Rust specializes in handcrafted furniture, home décor, custom engraving, and personalized gifts.

Friday morning’s event marked the unveiling of Willow Rust’s storefront which the owners built out themselves including the wooden signs and decor.

The store features a few examples of their furniture and a wide variety of gift ideas.

Willow Rust joins a wide variety of retail businesses in the Arcade‘s shopping corridor, where all of the storefronts are now leased, although a couple are still building out their spaces.

Quite a few of its neighbors are food and beverage purveyors, so this addition also helps diversify the mix of businesses and add more categories of products that can be found in the center of downtown.

Furniture stores specifically have a long history in Downtown Dayton, from the whole area around Fifth and Main to the furniture factory that once stood on the site where the Ohmer Garage Building was recently demolished.
