Dayton, Arcade Getting Plenty of National Attention

December 20, 2019 By Andrew Walsh Leave a Comment

This year there has been quite a bit of national attention on Dayton, Ohio. Much was due to the horrible series of tragedies the Gem City endured. But beyond the Memorial Day tornadoes and the Oregon District shooting, here have been other reasons Dayton has been in the limelight.

These include films like the Netflix documentary American Factory about Fuyao, and the Frontline Left Behind America documentary.

More recently, the narrative surrounding Dayton, Ohio has been given a more positive jolt, with a number of articles focusing on developments like the Dayton Arcade.

Urban expert Bruce Katz of Drexel University wrote an article looking at the Arcade, calling it the “most transformative project in America” and asking why such a complicated feat of financing was required to set it in motion.

The Atlantic has also launched a series on Dayton, touching on such themes as the University of Dayton and the Arcade redevelopment, the relationship between Dayton and Sinclair Community College, and more.

Dayton has also continued to see press related to its efforts combating the opioid epidemic, like this feature in the New York Times.

As we finally close the book on a horrible 2019 and look ahead to 2020, we’ll see if more positive stories about Dayton continue to surface in the national press.
