My name is Andrew Walsh and I’m a librarian and writer. I’m the author of Lost Dayton, Ohio and my research focuses on urban history, architecture, preservation, and urban redevelopment.
The word vista means a pleasing view, but it also can mean a “comprehensive mental view of a series of remembered or anticipated events.” Dayton Vistas features images shot in Dayton (historic and contemporary), but also longer reflections about the city’s history as well as what it is doing today to reinvent itself.
I also write about historic Dayton buildings, either lost or saved; industries and businesses from Dayton’s heyday; coverage of redevelopment projects in the city core; and other current issues, ranging from urban planning to historic preservation, where the past intersects with our present and future.

My book Lost Dayton, Ohio was published in 2018 by The History Press. Since then I’ve been an invited speaker for Heritage Ohio, PechaKucha Dayton, the Dayton Metro Library, the Engineers Club of Dayton, and many other organizations. I’ve also appeared on WYSO’s Book Nook, WMKV, Fox45, and more. Get in touch if you’re interested in having me speak to your organization, company, or other group.
I also record Dayton history videos, which you can see on my YouTube channel.
